Housing

  • There has been a housing shortage, since I moved here in 2006. Historically, Calistoga has always been a resort town, where people who wanted a second home would build one here to escape the cool foggy summers in the Bay Area.
  • Solage, first resort. Why I moved here in 2006. They did it right.
  • AirBnB. As the population aged, they sold their summer homes, Absentee Landlords, reduced county revenue, and available housing.
  • Two more resorts, following solage model, but with no housing plans.
  • Right now labor market is cannibalized, and transportation costs and availability reducing hiring.
  • Calistoga is too expensive for infrastructure support personnel like police, fire, and teachers.
